Alice Healy

I spent a couple of decades traveling the country and the globe with my husband and our three children. Inspiration for my watercolor paintings usually comes from nature, my travels and family.  I discovered my love for watercolor through Chinese brush painting classes while living in Singapore.

As a perpetual student, I have experimented with pastels, pen and ink, oils, acrylics, and silk painting, and always return to watercolor.  Since retiring from WWU as the Communication Sciences and Disorders  Academic Department Manager, I finally have time to paint.

I love the beauty of the northwest.  The wildlife, Puget Sound, the Olympic Pennisula and especially Sudden Valley inspire me.  I tend to work in phases — from flowers to northwest scenes, eagles, deer, wild fowl, rabbits.  Last  spring brought a passion for rocks, which has now led to a series of tree paintings.  My most recent trees are from the windswept Pacific Beach to trees at sunset.  I am also exploring portrait painting.  A recent commission was my first pet portrait.

My recent work can be seen on the Valley Arts Group website at ValleyArtsGroup.org.  We display our newest work quarterly in Sudden Valley at the Creekside Barn, the Administration Building, and at the South Whatcom Library.
