After receiving a commercial art certificate from Famous Artists’ School, the beginning years of Carol McMillan’s art career were practical. Working as the graphics technician for the anthropology department at the State University of New York at Buffalo, she illustrated archeological site reports, did photography for brochures and publications, and created pen and ink drawings and maps. After moving to Washington state in 1982, she began delighting in using water colors to capture the hearts of individual irises. The flowers drew Carol back into the world of fine art. Dr. McMillan later became a member of several artist groups, including the Winthrop Gallery, the Whatcom Arts Guild, and the Valley Arts Group, of which she was president in 2013. She has been a featured artist and has had shows in both Okanogan and Whatcom County.
